Church of Saint-Pierre

Firminy, France
Built: 1970-2006
Late Modern

Another Le Corbusier design, the Church of Saint-Pierre was completed posthumously in 2006, 41 years after the architect's death. The concrete structure takes the form of a truncated cone that widens as it rises, with light entering through precisely positioned openings. On certain days, the constellation of Orion is projected onto the interior walls through carefully placed perforations.
